CANNERY AND CARSJ
Yes you can find cars anywhere. Yesterdays activities included a tour of a defunct cannery which last canned salmon in 1930 after a rock slide blocked there spawning river. A bunch of frustrated salmon died in the river. The cannery continued with herring and other fish until early 50's. Now they make their living with tourists.

Speaking of the Prez, while sitting on the edge of the salmon box next to a new friend, Prez explored the salmon from the box behind him.

Please note his new friend's tee shirt can you read what it says.... it doesn't say Ford. I personally like th matching purse.

NOW ON TO THE CARS

Yesterday we travelled to see a private collection of over 100 cars. Jay Ralston was a car dealer who just kept some of the trade in cars over the years. He also bought many others.

This line of Fords started in the front with a 1929 and ended with a 1948 far in the back.

This one hasn't been restored. It is the Prez's dream car... Hope he wins the lottery!

In addition to all the cars, the collection included many many music boxes, orchestrals, slot machines, which fascinated this young visitor . They all worked.

Royce may know what ths one is. It was lovely violin music with piano accompanient ?

Mr. Ralstoy making change to play the next machine. Jim seems more interested in this. The entry fees and donations are usedto support Alzheimer's care and research. Mr. Ralstoy's wife suffers from Alzheimer's and he tears up when he discusses it.

A fun day and more to come tomorrow.

I am off to dinner with the Prez and Hamiltons. I have found wonderful Chocolatinis in the hotel pub plus local brew beers. And someone tell Mr. Stones they also have lemon drop martinis. Or if you would be kind you could invite he and Diane over to view the blog.

Model A's Leave for Vancouver

July 24th at 8:30 in the morning - Conejo Model A folks gathered to wish the Hamiltons and Dave Freeman safe travels, much advice, and last minute inspections.

ON THE WAY TO VANCOUVER
Jim, Judy and Dave saw many interesting sites along the way. Their second day stop was Healdsburg, CA which is famous for its wine country. No the picture below was not their hotel. Cars can bring lots of things besides good looking women. The picture above is the Ferrari winery.

After a couple more days on the road stopping in Crescent City and Tillamook, OR they arrived to cross on the Ferry to Vancouver, B.C.

They were first in line on the ferry. Dave had pole position on one side

Several Days on the road led Judy to comment that this wasn't the only boar {bore} she saw. When is Carol getting here?

University Village here we come

Perfect weather for old cars and old people - not too hot or too far. University Village provided a delightful, enthusiastic crowd of interesting and interested people oogling our cars.

We were greeted by throngs of residents and a lead golf cart which paraded us thru the village. They blew ther kazoos all the way and we blew our horns. A bunch of blowhards.

Do you believe what I did in these rumble seats? These ladies and many others told stories that I am not sure were all true but fun anyway.

No excuses for not moving in even this Austin Healy lives there.

The Hulseys, Hamiltons and Joe Maiorana wait in the lunch line. It was far more than hots dogs and root beer floats. Steak, hot dogs, hamburgs, lots of salads, cookies, and real beer. We were treated like royalty.

End of day resting. Pictured from back to front are Al Koch and Paula Marsden, Judy Hamilton and her new hat, Royce and Louise and your favorite editor Carol. Not pictured but also attending were Win Burkhart with his 40 Mercury, Calamari Kid, The Gates and probably someone I have forgotten.

Joy, children laugter and of course the usual swimming and piano.
Nephew Brian, wife Amy,and sons Noah, age 11 and Ashtin age 7 arrived Friday after noon after a long drive from Bend, Oregon. All were very polite and a little shy but sure that will ease after a few more swims and fun.

Noah has taken some piano lessons and was very impressive on the keyboard. I fooled him for a few minutes with my abilities until he discovered my self playing computer set up on the piano.

On June 12th 3 Model A's and a plethora of other vehicles made their way over Portrero to Oxnard and the fantastic new museum of cars the Mullin Museum. Peter Mullin, who made his fortunes in the finance world has amassed a collection of French cars not surpassed in the world. Right here in Ventura County. Enjoy the car pictures and afew of the members who made the trip. a few captions along the way. Jim provided written instructions and read them to us just in case.

Ken and Susan are wondering if they should replace their Model A with this one.

A beauty and would make a great color for a Corvette convertible. This was Art's favorite. maybe we'll see it on the next drive?

Fascinating story on this Bugatti. In about 1939 it was stopped at the Border and not permitted across. The owner left it behind. By law the border authorities had to destroy it so they dropped it into a lake but left a large chain attached. Over the years, the chain rusted away. In 2009 a young man was seriously injured and the town folk, remembering the story decided to raise the car to sell to raise the money. Mullin purchased it eventually and will not be restoring it. Duh???

After lunch the women explored old town Ventura and visited the Art Exhibit. More beauty.

Becky Halvorson and Judy Hamilton had complementing blouses for the trip to our seaside city. Even the outside of the Mullin Museum was beautiful.

Sorry more cars that got out of order in the blog. And definitely the centerpiece.
